Top experiences on a visit to Egypt
If you think of Egypt, you naturally think of antiquities – place where the term ‘Giza’ is not referring to a cheeky-chappy from the London’s East End. The things that spring to my mind are Pyramids rather than golden beaches and clear water.
If your idea of great Egypt holidays involves being near or in water, then Hurghada may well be the place for you. There is plenty to do in this amazing place, and it is no wonder that it is referred to as the ‘Red Sea Riviera’. These activities include sailing, diving, windsurfing and deep-sea fishing. The good thing about Hurghada and diving is that you don’t have to be an expert. All you need is a snorkel and you will witness some of the world’s most breathtaking underwater sights.
The town of Hurghada is essentially three main centres, with many self-contained ‘villages’ for tourists. These villages are rapidly growing into one coherent complex. Downtowwn Hurghada is called El Dahar, and is considered the old town. Sekalla is the modern centre, and El Korra Road is a fairly recent development. Hurghada hotels are set within a lively area, especially known for the concentration of night clubs and bars.
Why not try a Nile cruise, if the idea of a holiday on an Egyptian beach is not appealing. Nile cruises are the perfect way of seeing life as it has always been in Egypt. There are plenty of sights that should stir the emotions, having changed little over thousands of years. Typically you will sale from Luxor to Esna and walk among the huge temple of Amun Ra, also visiting the temples of Karnak and Luxor. You will also witness the Aswan dam, a modern day engineering feat the Pharaohs would have been proud of!
