Today Vacations in the UK are the fashion. The numerous reasons are too many to list but most are in agreement that the main factor is the current economic environment and the increasing need to minimize costs, especially in connection with vacations. A further influential factor is the low value of the Pound which makes foreign vacations expensive for those living in Britain but travel into the UK is cheap. The United Kingdom has large selection of first class tourist destinations including a decent selection of seaside resorts, however more tourists are choosing to book hotels in cities instead. Places To Visit In Sheffield

For a city with a history associated with industry primarily in the cutlery and steel industries, Sheffield sports a wide variety of galleries. The most well known are the Ruskin Gallery, Metalworks Gallery and Graves Art Gallery. Entry is free at the Millennium Galleries and feature visiting exhibitions (there is usually a small entry fee of  a few pounds for these. The Ruskin Gallery is founded upon a collection given by John Ruskin for the improvement of the Sheffield workers and includes watercolors, sketches, paintings, casts, minerals and a library of classic nineteenth century texts.

You will find that Sheffield has a small selection of museums but the City Museum is found on the outskirts of the city center as is the Kelham Island Museum which is home to all manner of things connected with the city’s industrial past and old machines. Although the city was bombed heavily during World War Two several superb examples of Victorian and older architecture still survive and the city center is amazingly easy to walk around. Attempt to allow time to visit the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul which dates back to the fifteenth century.

Staying In Sheffield

Because the city has a University the bars, cafes and clubs can become surprisingly busy at the weekends, during which time students make the very most their free time. While many people enjoy such a lively nightlife others prefer a more quiet place in which to stay, such visitors should make a reservation in a hotel away from the city center.

If a weekend city break in Sheffield is not really your thing why not ponder upon booking a couple of weeks in a hotel in London, the capital of England? Alternatively why not think about making a reservation in a hotel in Liverpool,  which was Europe’s Capital of Culture 2008 and benefits from a fantastic collection of first class visitor attractions.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain has a great deal to offer the tourist and the many incredibly interesting, and very diverse, cities often offer more than the numerous seaside resorts.
