The RRS Discovery is the most prestigious part of the visitor centre having been fully restored from the top to the bottom. The Sensation Science Centre

Verdant Works

Verdant Works  was, in the past, a working jute mill. At it’s height, during the 1860’s and ’70’s, the industry in Dundee employed roughly fifty thousand people in excess of 60 factories across the city of Dundee. These days,  Verdant Works brings this industry to life, utilising a range of displays including, film shows, original machinery and interactive computers. This incredible museum was once home to 3 enormous steam engines which powered 70 looms and two thousand eight hundred spindles.  There was also 5 hundred people working there, preparing and spinning jute then weaving it over the road in  another factory. Renovation of the jute mill began in 1992 and it first opened to the public on the sixteenth of September nineteen ninety six.
