Fairy tale of the nature started from million years ago with volcanoes. Then winds, rains and the temperature differences started to give shape to the area and humans add the meaning and spirit. Area was one of the important sight of the mummy Goddess’Kybele’ and just like a mother, region accepted all people who seeks refuge. Frescoes of the cave-churches, underground cities, bird nests, valleys and fairy chimneys are first things to remember but also cave-hotels, hiking in the valleys and Hot air Ballooning are the other attractives.
We start with a visit to Goreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to view some of the entrancing frescoed and rock carved churches. We then stop in the consequential hamlet of Cavusin followed by a mooch among the majestic fairy chimneys of Pasabag. Thereafter, we continue to Saruhan, a particularly convincingly and wonderfully restored 13th century Seljuk caravanserai. In Avanos, a city respected essentially for its normal pottery work, we stop for lunch, followed by a visit to the famous pottery artisans in their rock carved workshops.
We first travel across the fruitful plains of Cappadocia, passing through several hamlets to arrive at Kaymakli, one of the biggest and most entrancing multilevel underground cities and a singular feature of this area. Gregory Nazianzen where we take a short tour of this very authentic Turkish village. After lunch, we descend into the sheer-sided ravine of Ihlara Valley.
We begin with a trip to Pigeon Valley. Then we pass thru standard Anatolian villages such as Ayvali and Mazi to arrive in Soganli Valley, also known as the ‘Valley of Dolls,’ where many Byzantine period rock tombs are found. Here, we take an easy going hike to explore the Cappadocian architectural style rock carved churches and monastery ruins. After lunch in a town, we pass thru the town of Sahinefendi, and visit Sobessos, a lately discovered late Roman site featuring incredible mosaic work.
The next stop will be the Byzantine Keslik priory, followed by a visit to Mustafapasha ( Sinasos ), famous for its excellent Ottoman and Greek design. Here, we’re going to take a straightforward mooch to explore the town and the 1st church that was built by the Ottomans for the Christian community. We then carry on to Urgup to explore this ancient town. Before returning to the hotel, we will stop to see the famous fairy chimneys known as’The 3 Beauties’.
